Restore your youthful glow

Dental treatments can take years off your appearance – but at the Penerley Road Dental Practice we understand that when it comes to your looks, a holistic approach is always most effective. That’s why we also offer science-backed, injectable botulinum toxin (Botox), and PRGF (the ‘vampire facelift’), which directly combat the visible signs of ageing.

As dentists, we’re especially well qualified to carry out advanced facial treatments. Our advanced knowledge of facial anatomy, combined with the aesthetic eye required to carry out cosmetic dental treatments, means you can trust us to deliver the subtle changes you want from your complexion. From deep expression lines and crows’ feet to lost volume, our non-surgical facial rejuvenation therapies can help restore your youthful glow.

FAQs

What is botulinum toxin and how does it work?

Botulinum toxin is a wrinkle-smoothing treatment and the same ingredient used by the Botox brand. Injected in targeted areas, it works by blocking the signal from the nerve to the nerve endings, effectively ‘freezing’ muscle movement – so when you laugh or frown, your skin looks and feels smoother.

What kind of results can I expect from botulinum toxin?

The area we treat will appear smoother with less wrinkles, lines and creases. This should last for about three to four months. You can also have top-up treatments to prolong the effects.

Please be aware that the treatment will not affect any static wrinkles that are not linked to facial contraction. Botulinum toxin is most effective on frown lines, forehead lines and laughter lines.

When will I start to see the changes after botulinum toxin treatment?

You should notice the changes around seven days or so after your treatment. But this does vary from patient to patient, so it could take between two to three weeks for you to see the full effects.

How do you carry out botulinum toxin treatment?

The procedure is quick, safe and virtually pain-free. We inject a tiny amount of anti-wrinkle treatment into several locations in your face. The treatment can usually be carried out in under an hour.

What is PRGF?

The PRGF®-Endoret® technique isolates, concentrates and extracts “growth factors” from your own blood to repair and rejuvenate your skin naturally. A favourite with Hollywood stars, the treatment has been coined the “vampire facial” by the media – but the technique has actually been used in medical circles for many years and certainly doesn’t fall into the category of celebrity fad. It has serious scientific backing and is already used by dentists for bone grafting procedures. In its beauty context, PRGF can be injected into the desired site to smooth away lines and wrinkles; it can also reduce the appearance of scars.

How can PRGF help me?

PRGF can be used to smooth away lines and wrinkles, reduce the appearance of scars and sun damage and even help with alopecia.

How does the ‘vampire facelift’ treatment work?

Blood is first drawn from the arm, and then rapidly spun in a centrifuge, separating the sample into individual components – plasma, PRGF and the cellular layer containing red and white blood cells. We harvest the PRGF and re-inject it into the face, in the same way you might administer botulinum toxin.

How long do the results last?

Generally, your ‘vampire facelift’ will continue to boost and generate collagen for around three months after treatment. After this, your dentist may recommend returning to the Penerley Road Dental Practice for further treatment. For best results, a course of PRGF treatments may be recommended.

Are there any side effects?

There is no risk of encountering an allergic reaction, as PRGF is taken from your own blood supply. Side effects from the injections themselves are low-risk – some puffiness or tenderness may be experienced, but will usually wear off after 48 hours.
