Newsletter – Important Update

Dear Patient,

We are delighted to bring you news today from The Penerley Dental Practice as we slowly emerge from the country’s lockdown.

We hope and trust you and your loved ones are well.

We are pleased to say that all of our staff are well, and we have all stayed in close contact as we navigate our way forward into the new uncharted waters of a new world of Dentistry!

Behind the scenes our team at The Penerley Dental Practice have come together in preparation for our return and care of your dental health once again. We are still in process of putting things in place so we can become COVID-19 compliant.

As you know it was with regret that we had to cancel all the treatments and close the practice doors way back now in middle of March 2020.

We have been concerned for you all and especially those who are mid-way through treatment, and those of you who have had discomfort or dental issues arising during this time. We have done our best to telephone triage our own patients with issues as well as new patients who have called us in distress.

We are delighted to say the practice will be reopened from 1st July.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back into the Surgery with some changes in place, all of which are from a totally “patient focused” perspective.

We have fully trained according to the new guidelines and have the relevant personal protective equipment.

Based on evidence we are using equipment to highest standards of decontamination according to HTM01/05 /HTM 01/07 as well as current COVID-19-infection control.

The appointments will have to be spread out and patients will have to wait outside the practice to be called straight into the surgery.

Prior, during & after your appointment

-Please brush & floss your teeth prior to the appointment, you will also be given a mouth wash before treatment.

-The toilet in the practice will not be in use as far as possible.

-Your payment may be taken prior to start of the treatment, If possible pay by contact less/Apple pay/card payment…if you can only pay cash then its fine too.

-The waiting room will not be in use as far as possible and you will be asked to wait outside until allowed to enter. (2m social distancing)

-Hand gel will be provided.

-Please only bring in any necessary personal belongings and as little as possible with you.

-You must attend on your own, only accompanied if you are under 18 years of age, need a translator or are in any way incapacitated and need assistance. (Please advise us in advance).

-Your medical forms, consent and treatment plans will be signed in advance of your treatment.

-Your follow up appointment will be made over the phone after you have left the surgery.

-In some instances, after a consultation or examination has been carried out, the dentist will contact you virtually by phone to discuss your treatment plan further. (To minimise time in the surgery)

According to government guidelines and NHS & Public Health England, we will be seeing the patients in phases.

After reading the guidelines, below is a simple guideline formulated by The Penerley Dental Practice.

PHASE 1: 1st July 2020 (URGENT & NECESSARY treatment with low risk of aerosol). Patients who need urgent dental care but showing covid symptoms will be directed to urgent dental centres.

Plus: Remote care/telephone triage remains the same as before.

PHASE 2: Possibly mid to end July 2020 (providing necessary treatment with low risk of aerosol, such as dental examination, radiographs and simple extractions & simple scale & polish), Patients who need urgent dental care but showing Covid symptoms will be directed to urgent dental centres.

Plus: Remote care/telephone triage remains the same as before.

PHASE 3: Not certain of the date yet, RETURN OF ALL ROUTINE DENTAL CARE. Patients who need urgent dental care but showing Covid symptoms will be directed to urgent dental centres.

There will be more information on our new practices and policies in the coming weeks but in general we will be providing:

Pre-appointment telephone COVID-19 assessment.

Contactless Reception: Remote reception and appointments made by phone only. The answerphone will be on for patients to leave messages (outside of our working hours) and we will be answering the phone calls during our working hours.

As always you will have 24hour access to us via the practice phone number.

Patient forms – We are going to be paperless soon, before that all forms and paperwork need to be filled in the porch or reception area with social distancing, if possible bring your own pen. We are still here to facilitate this for you.

Brand new equipment to keep you safe and reduce the aerosol reduces the viral overload by 99% based on evidence:

-face filtering masks

-use of rubber dam to cover the working area

full PPE with gowns and hairnet and shoe covers and masks

With best wishes and gratitude to all our patients, stay safe and enjoy your family and friends and the seemingly never-ending sunshine.

We will be in touch with you all shortly to arrange your appointments, according to the phasing of the treatments in our practice, In the mean while please feel free to contact us with any issues you may have.

Your sincerely

From all of us at  The Penerley Dental Practice
